Uganda international Catherine Nagadya has taken a significant step in her football career after completing a move to Egyptian Women’s Premier League side Al Ahly Women SC from Kampala Queens FC.
The Crested Cranes winger has signed a two-year contract with one of Africa’s most successful sporting institutions, marking an exciting new chapter in her journey as a professional footballer.
Nagadya leaves Kampala Queens having enjoyed a highly successful spell with the club. Since joining the Uganda Women’s Super League outfit in 2023, she played a key role in their domestic success, helping the team secure two Women’s Super League titles and one Women’s Cup.
Her pace, creativity, and attacking flair made her one of the league’s standout performers and a valuable asset throughout her time at the club.
Before her move to Kampala Queens, Nagadya developed her game at Makerere University and Uganda Martyrs Lubaga, where she steadily built a reputation as one of Uganda’s brightest young talents. Her impressive performances at club level earned her opportunities with Uganda’s national youth teams, representing the country at both the U17 and U20 levels before graduating to the senior national team, the Crested Cranes, in 2023.
Her transfer to Al Ahly is another milestone for Ugandan women’s football, highlighting the growing recognition of the country’s talent on the continental stage.
Nagadya becomes the third Ugandan currently playing in the Egyptian Women’s Premier League, joining Bridget Nabisaalu of Modern Sport and Phiona Nabulime of FC Masar.
Founded in September 2021, Al Ahly Women SC serves as the women’s football section of Al Ahly SC, the most decorated football club in both Egypt and Africa. Despite being a relatively young team, Al Ahly Women have quickly established themselves among the country’s elite and continue to strengthen their squad with ambitious signings.
Last season, Al Ahly Women finished second in the Egyptian Women’s Premier League, ending the campaign five points behind champions FC Masar, who secured their third consecutive league title.
The club will be aiming to close that gap in the upcoming season, and Nagadya’s arrival is expected to bolster their attacking options as they pursue domestic glory.
The move represents an important opportunity for Catherine Nagadya to test herself in one of Africa’s most competitive women’s football leagues while continuing to raise the profile of Ugandan football abroad.
Her success will undoubtedly inspire many aspiring young footballers back home as she embarks on this exciting new challenge in Egypt.
