Uganda Martyrs Lubaga WFC continued their perfect start to the 2026/27 Finance Trust Bank FUFA Women Super League campaign with an impressive 4-1 victory over Rines SS WFC at MTN Omondi Stadium, Lugogo, on Sunday, 27 September 2026.
The hosts produced a dominant second-half display to complement their first-half breakthrough, securing a convincing victory that sent them to the top of the 12-team standings.
The result marked Uganda Martyrs’ second consecutive victory of the campaign following their 1-0 away win over Lady Dove FC on Match Day One. With six points from their opening two matches, the Lubaga side became the only team in the division to maintain a 100 per cent winning record, while Rines suffered their second straight defeat and remained without a point.
Uganda Martyrs Gradually Take Control
The opening exchanges provided plenty of encouragement that the encounter could develop into an exciting contest, with both sides showing attacking intent and attempting to establish control. Rines were willing to compete for possession and test the Uganda Martyrs defence, while the hosts looked equally determined to impose themselves on the game.
As the first half progressed, however, Uganda Martyrs gradually began to gain the upper hand. Their movement became more purposeful, their pressure around the Rines penalty area increased, and they began to create greater difficulties for the visitors’ defence.
That sustained pressure eventually produced the breakthrough just before the interval. In the 43rd minute, Auki Angel Kigongo rose above the Rines defence to meet Brendah Munyana’s well-delivered cross and headed the ball into the back of the net.

The goal gave Uganda Martyrs a deserved 1-0 lead and arrived at a crucial moment, allowing the hosts to enter the half-time interval with the advantage and renewed confidence.
Kanyiginya Doubles the Advantage
Rather than allowing Rines an opportunity to regroup after the break, Uganda Martyrs immediately resumed their attacking approach. Just four minutes into the second half, the hosts doubled their advantage through Sharon Kanyiginya.
Kanyiginya stepped up to take a free kick in the 49th minute and produced a well-struck effort that found the back of the net. The goal extended Uganda Martyrs’ lead to 2-0 and placed Rines under increasing pressure as they searched for a way back into the contest.
With the hosts firmly in control, the Uganda Martyrs technical team made their first change of the afternoon. Shallon Nabbowa was introduced in place of Deborah Luka as the technical bench looked to maintain the team’s intensity and freshen up the attacking options.
Rines, meanwhile, struggled to generate the sustained pressure needed to unsettle a confident Uganda Martyrs side. The hosts continued to control the tempo and remained dangerous whenever they moved forward.
Kigongo Completes Her Brace
Uganda Martyrs’ continued dominance eventually produced another reward in the 70th minute when Kigongo struck again. The forward completed her brace with a well-taken finish to make it 3-0 and further underline her influence on the afternoon.
Having opened the scoring shortly before half-time, Kigongo’s second goal effectively put the hosts in complete control of the match. Her two-goal contribution also provided a significant personal highlight in a performance that helped Uganda Martyrs maintain their unbeaten and winning start.
Despite finding themselves three goals behind, Rines continued to search for a response. Their persistence finally paid off in the 81st minute when Yasmeen Nalukwago pulled one goal back to reduce the deficit to 3-1.
The goal briefly offered Rines a glimmer of hope, but Uganda Martyrs quickly moved to manage the closing stages of the encounter. The technical team made another round of changes, introducing Aculu Comfort, Mwajju Namataka and Aidah Namuwonge for Brendah Munyana, Jessica Ritah Nalubwama and Sarah Nakuya.
Namuwonge Seals the Victory
The substitutions soon proved effective. Fresh from coming off the bench, Aidah Namuwonge made an immediate impact by scoring Uganda Martyrs’ fourth goal of the afternoon.Namuwonge’s late strike restored the hosts’ three-goal cushion at 4-1 and effectively settled the contest. It was also a timely contribution from the substitute, whose immediate impact highlighted the attacking options available to Head Coach Edward Kasozi.
The final whistle confirmed a comprehensive victory for Uganda Martyrs, who combined effective attacking play with sustained pressure to secure another three points. For Rines, the defeat represented another difficult outing and extended their winless start to the campaign.
Uganda Martyrs Move to the Summit
The victory lifted Uganda Martyrs Lubaga WFC to the top of the 12-team standings with six points from two matches and a goal difference of plus four. They are currently the only side in the league to have collected maximum points from both of their opening fixtures.
The Lubaga side sit two points clear of Kawempe Muslim Ladies FC, KCCA Women FC, She Maroons and St. Noa Girls FC, who have each collected four points from their opening two matches. Although the campaign remains in its early stages, Uganda Martyrs have already established themselves as the early pace-setters with seven goals scored and only one conceded.

For Kasozi and his players, the focus will now shift towards maintaining that momentum. Their next assignment will provide a significantly tougher examination, with the league leaders set to face defending champions Kawempe Muslim Ladies FC.
Rines Remain at the Bottom
For Rines SS WFC, the 4-1 defeat means they have now lost both of their opening matches and remain without a point. Their difficult start has left them at the bottom of the 12-team standings, with a goal difference of minus six.
Rines have conceded seven goals in their first two matches while managing to score only once, leaving Head Coach Swalah Kamya with plenty to address before the team’s next league outing. After the opening-day defeat to She Maroons, the loss to Uganda Martyrs has further increased the importance of their upcoming fixture.

Nevertheless, with the season still in its early stages, Rines have an opportunity to respond. Their next match will be played at home, giving them the chance to regroup, improve their performance and begin their search for the first points of the campaign.
Different Challenges Await
Uganda Martyrs Lubaga WFC will face CECAFA CAF Women’s Champions League and Finance Trust Bank FUFA Women Super League defending champions Kawempe Muslim Ladies FC on Match Day Three.
The encounter will take place at St. Mary’s Stadium, Kitende, on Sunday, 18 October 2026.The fixture will provide an early test of Uganda Martyrs’ title ambitions and their ability to maintain the momentum generated by their impressive opening two victories.
After scoring seven goals and collecting six points, the Lubaga side will enter the contest with confidence, but they will face a defending champion that is also unbeaten after the opening two rounds.
Rines SS WFC, meanwhile, will host Amus College WFC at Kabaka Kyabaggu Stadium on the same day. Having suffered two defeats without a point, Rines will be hoping that a home fixture can provide the platform for their first positive result of the season.
The meeting with Amus College will therefore carry added importance for Kamya and his players, who will be looking to turn their early-season difficulties around before the gap between them and the teams above begins to widen. For Uganda Martyrs, the 4-1 victory was another significant step in an encouraging opening to the campaign.
With six points from two matches, seven goals scored and only one conceded, the Lubaga side now heads into the international break at the summit and with a major test against the defending champions awaiting them on their return.
