Tanzania Premier League giants Azam FC have officially announced the signing of Ugandan forward Hassan Mubiru from SC Villa, completing a move that sees one of Uganda’s brightest attacking talents embark on a new chapter in his career.
The Ice Cream Makers have secured Mubiru’s services on a two-year contract that will keep him at the Dar es Salaam-based club until 2028 as they continue to strengthen their squad for future challenges.
Mubiru arrives at Azam FC after an outstanding campaign with SC Villa, where he established himself as one of the most influential players in Ugandan football. The forward played a key role in the Jogoos’ season, showcasing his attacking quality, composure in front of goal and ability to deliver in crucial moments.
His impressive performances throughout the campaign made him one of the most sought-after players in the region, attracting interest from beyond Uganda’s borders.
The move to Azam had been agreed shortly after SC Villa’s appearance in the Stanbic Uganda Cup final, where the Jogoos narrowly missed out on silverware following a 2-1 defeat to Kitara at the FUFA Technical Centre in Njeru.
Despite the disappointment of the final result, Mubiru’s individual performances during the season remained a major highlight and played a significant role in earning him the opportunity to continue his career in Tanzania.
By joining Azam FC, Mubiru becomes the latest Ugandan footballer to make the switch to the Tanzania Premier League, following the path of midfielder Allan Okello, who moved to Young Africans during the January transfer window.
The growing number of Ugandan players securing moves to Tanzania reflects the increasing reputation of Ugandan talent within East African football and the competitive opportunities available across the border.The forward also joins a proud list of Ugandan players who have previously featured for Azam FC.
Mubiru follows in the footsteps of former Uganda internationals Brian Umony, Brian Majwega and Nicholas Wadada, who all represented the Ice Cream Makers and contributed to the club’s ambitions during their respective spells.
Azam FC’s connection with Ugandan football has not only been through players but also through the technical department. Former Uganda international George ‘Best’ Nsimbe previously served the club as head coach before later continuing his association with Azam in an assistant coaching role, further highlighting the strong relationship between the Tanzanian club and Ugandan football.
With his arrival, Mubiru brings fresh attacking quality and added competition to Azam FC’s squad as the club targets success in domestic competitions and on the continental stage.
The Ugandan forward will be eager to replicate the form that made him a standout performer at SC Villa while proving himself in one of East Africa’s most competitive football leagues.
