The stage is officially set for the 2026 FUFA Super Eight, with the Federation of Uganda Football Associations (FUFA) unveiling the fixtures for a competition that promises to provide an exciting start to the new football season.
The tournament will once again serve as an important curtain-raiser, giving Uganda’s leading clubs an opportunity to return to competitive action, assess their squads and lay down an early marker ahead of the new Uganda Premier League campaign.
The annual tournament brings together some of the country’s best-performing clubs from the previous league season, creating an exciting platform where established giants and ambitious challengers compete for early-season silverware.
Beyond the trophy itself, the Super Eight offers teams a valuable chance to build momentum, test new signings and fine-tune their tactical preparations before the intensity of the league campaign takes centre stage.
Eight clubs earned their places in this year’s competition following their performances in the 2025/26 Uganda Premier League season. The line-up features KCCA FC, SC Villa, Kitara FC, NEC FC, Police FC, UPPC FC, Maroons FC and BUL FC, setting up a highly competitive field with plenty of experience, ambition and history among the participating sides.
Uganda Premier League champions Vipers SC, however, will not be part of the 2026 edition. The absence of the league champions is attributed to their demanding fixture schedule, which includes their involvement in the CECAFA Kagame Cup. Their omission means the remaining eight teams will have an open path to challenge for the prestigious pre-season title.
The quarterfinal draw has already produced several intriguing battles, with top-seeded KCCA FC handed a difficult opening assignment against BUL FC. The two clubs will meet in a two-legged quarterfinal tie, with both sides expected to approach the contest with ambition as they seek to gain an early advantage over their rivals.
The other quarterfinal fixtures have also set up fascinating encounters. SC Villa, the reigning Super Eight champions, will take on Maroons FC, while Kitara FC will face UPPC FC in another potentially absorbing contest.
NEC FC, meanwhile, will square off against Police FC, with both teams looking to make a strong impression and secure a place in the last four.
The quarterfinal stage will be decided over two legs, ensuring that the teams have to demonstrate consistency and resilience across both encounters. The aggregate winners from the four ties will book their places in the semifinals, while the teams that suffer elimination will remain in contention through classification matches, which will determine the final rankings from fifth to eighth.
The competition will become even more intense at the semifinal stage, where the remaining four teams will battle across two legs for places in the championship decider. The two victorious sides will earn the right to contest the final, while the losing semifinalists will be given another opportunity to finish on the podium when they meet in the third-place playoff.
The final will be decided by a single decisive encounter at FUFA Stadium, Stadium in Mengo , where the two surviving teams will go head-to-head for the 2026 FUFA Super Eight crown. The one-off final is expected to provide a fitting climax to a tournament designed to showcase some of Uganda’s leading football clubs before the new season gets into full swing.
According to the confirmed schedule, the tournament will officially kick off on 1 August 2026, with the opening quarterfinal matches providing the first taste of competitive football. The first-leg fixtures will see KCCA FC host BUL FC and SC Villa take on Maroons FC on Saturday, 1 August, before Kitara FC face UPPC FC and NEC FC meet Police FC the following day.
The return legs will follow on 6 and 7 August, after which the successful teams will advance to the semifinal stage. The tournament schedule has also indicated that matches will be staged at MTN Omondi Stadium and Hamz Stadium, while the decisive final will take place at FUFA Stadium, Kadiba in Mengo.
For SC Villa, the tournament presents an opportunity to defend the title they claimed in 2025. The Jogoos enjoyed a memorable campaign last year, defeating NEC FC 2–0 in the final to lift the Super Eight trophy and establish themselves as the competition’s reigning champions.
With a strong collection of Uganda’s leading clubs assembled for the 2026 edition, the FUFA Super Eight is expected to deliver a compelling blend of fierce competition, tactical battles and early-season excitement.
As the participating teams prepare to begin their respective campaigns, attention will now turn to which club can make the strongest start, navigate the demanding knockout format and ultimately emerge as Uganda’s Super Eight champions.
