The groups for the 57th edition of the CAF Champions League (officially the 2020-21 Total CAF Champions League for sponsorship reasons) and the 25th edition under the current title have been confirmed following the official Draw held at the CAF Headquarters in Cairo, Egypt on Friday 8 January 2021.

The draw that has been conducted by CAF Head of competitions Khlaed Nassar, assisted by Egypt’s legend Hossam Ghaly, has produced some mouthwatering fixtures set for the group stages of this edition’s competition.

Taking top position in Group A are defending champions Al Ahly who will be aiming at defending their last season’s triumph.

The Egyptian giants are in Group A alongside AS Vita, Simba plus El Merriekh and this therefore means Al Ahly will not be making a trip to South Africa in the group stages, with Pitso Mosimane missing out on the chance of coming up against both his former employees and former domestic rivals in Sundowns and Chiefs respectively.

The make-up of Group B includes Congolese giants TP Mazembe, Mamelodi Sundowns from South Africa ,Al Hilal and CR Belouizidad. This means three Ugandans will probably have chance to come up against each other since Joseph Benson Ochaya plays for TP Mazembe while custodians Jamal Salim and Dennis Onyango play for Al Hilal and Mamelodi Sundowns respectively.

However, Uganda will have no representative in this edition’s competition after their representative Vipers SC were knocked out of the Champions League by Al Hilal.

In Group C,Wydad Casablanca have been drawn with Horoya AC,Petro de Luanda and South African outfit Keizer Chiefs. This means Kaizer Chiefs have avoided both Mamelodi Sundowns and Al Ahly in the group stages of the CAF Champions League competition.

Drawn first in Group D are Tunisian giants Espérance de Tunis and will have Zamalek SC, MC Alger and Teungue as their opponents.
