Uganda Cranes contingent in Cameroon has moved from Yaounde to Douala where they will hold another training camp for one week ahead of the group stage matches of the upcoming Championship of Africa Nations (CHAN) tournament which gets underway on Friday 18th 2021.
This comes just a day after the conclusion of the Pre-CHAN Mini Tournament held in the same country, a precursor to the continental showpiece in which only locally based players are eligible to represent their respective nations.
Uganda played three friendly matches in the Pre-CHAN Mini Tournament,sharing the spoils in a 1-1 draw with Cameroon in their first game and winning 2-0 and 3-0 against Zambia and Niger respectively
The team travelled to Douala straight from their previous training base in Yaounde ,Cameroon and headed to their hotel just a few metres away from the Stadium where they will play their Group C matches.
Meanwhile,the four KCCA FC players who have not been part of the Uganda cranes Squad in the just concluded Pre-CHAN Mini Tournament are expected to join the rest of the team today ahead of the final tournament.These four are Brian Aheebwa, Bright Anukani, Denis Iguma and custodian Charles Lukwago.
The team will continue with preparations in Douala as the clock ticks towards their opening match against Rwanda on 18th January 2021, a game which will be the first CHAN game for the Cranes under Johnathon McKinstry.
Uganda is in Group C with defending champions Morocco, neighbours Rwanda and new comers Togo in this edition’s CHAN tournament and will get their CHAN campaign underway against Rwanda on 18th January 2021 before meeting Togo on January 21st and wrapping their Group C campaign against defending champions Morocco on 26th January 2021.
