One of Nabisunsa’s players

Nabisunsa Girls Basketball Club’s season in the National Basketball League ended in disappointment after a 77–70 defeat to Miracle Eaglets at Abja Park, Nalya, a result that confirmed their relegation to FUBA Division One. It was the final outcome of a long and difficult campaign in which survival always felt just out of reach, despite moments of promise and determined performances across several games.

Nabisunsa entered the fixture fully aware of what was at stake. Their position on the table had already left them in a precarious situation, meaning every remaining match carried the intensity of a knockout encounter. The challenge, however, was made even tougher by a punishing run of fixtures against strong opposition, including JT Lady Jaguars and JKL Lady Dolphins. These games exposed the gap in consistency and experience, leaving Nabisunsa under constant pressure heading into their final survival push.

Against Miracle Eaglets, Nabisunsa showed early resistance and intent, playing with urgency and attacking confidence. Their ball movement was sharp, and they executed their offensive plays with clarity in the opening period. This strong start allowed them to build a 24–17 lead by the end of the first quarter, briefly raising hopes that they could pull off a crucial victory to keep their survival chances alive.

However, the momentum gradually shifted as the game progressed. Miracle Eaglets adjusted their defensive structure, closing down driving lanes and limiting second-chance opportunities. As Nabisunsa’s rhythm slowed, their turnovers increased and their shot selection became more difficult under pressure. What had started as a promising advantage slowly turned into a battle of endurance and composure, and the Eaglets capitalized on every lapse.

As the match wore on, the weight of Nabisunsa’s season-long struggles became increasingly evident. This was their 16th loss in 20 games, a statistic that reflected not just one poor outing but a broader pattern of inconsistency throughout the campaign. In several matches across the season, they had shown the ability to compete in stretches, but sustaining performance across all four quarters remained their biggest challenge. That issue ultimately defined their fate.

Despite the defeat, Nabisunsa had notable individual contributions that kept them competitive for long stretches. Abigail Mpoza led the scoring with 18 points, showing determination and composure even as the game slipped away. Martha Yikuru added 16 points, contributing important baskets during key phases, while Ketra Joy Auma chipped in with 13 points, providing energy and offensive support when needed. Their efforts reflected a team that continued to fight despite growing pressure and the reality of relegation closing in.

On the other side, Miracle Eaglets found their decisive force in Winfred Akello, who delivered a dominant performance with 29 points and 12 rebounds. She controlled the interior on both ends of the floor, finishing strong in the paint, securing crucial rebounds, and consistently punishing defensive gaps. Her presence proved to be the difference, especially in the second half when the game tightened and experience became crucial.

By the final buzzer, Nabisunsa’s relegation was confirmed, bringing an end to their top-flight campaign. While the result was painful, it also highlighted the harsh demands of the league, where consistency often matters more than isolated strong performances. For Nabisunsa, attention will now turn to rebuilding in FUBA Division One, with the aim of regaining stability and returning stronger in future seasons, while Miracle Eaglets continue to strengthen their position in the league with a confidence-boosting win.
