The 2023 Uganda Secondary Schools Sports Association (USSSA) National Boys football championship is into its final stages, with the race between Uganda’s Elite schools to get their hands on the trophy approaching a conclusion after a rigorous action in Fortportal City.

Record champions Kibuli SS were dumped out in the quarter-finals , as were Wakiso district champions Buddo SS , but defending champions St. Mary’s SS Kitende and the impressive St. Henry’s College Kitovu remain in the hunt for glory.

There have been plenty of ups and downs before the final, from the group stages, round of 16, quarterfinals and semi-finals , but when will the ultimate decider take place?

WHICH TEAMS ARE IN THE FINAL ?

Defending champions St. Mary’s SS kitende will face off with St. Henry’s College Kitovu in the final of the 2023 Uganda Secondary Schools Sports Association (USSSA) National Football Championship in Fortportal City , after both teams survived the pressure of penalties to book their slots in this year’s final that will be played on Saturday, 20th May.

St. Mary’s SS kitende beat Amus College School (5-3) on spot kicks following a 1-1 draw in regulation time.Frank Katongole gave St Mary’s SS Kitende the lead in the 8th minute before Allan Oyirwoth found the equalizer mid-way the opening stanza.

In the shoot-out, St Mary’s Kitende managed to score all their five kicks through Derrick Kato, Habib Oloya, Ronaldo Madoi, Samuel Lukuye and Hakim Mutebi who was brought on in the second half of the game.

On the other hand, Amus College School managed to score three goals in the shoot-out and these came from Toto Majubu, Abdul Razak and Samuel Ola. Meanwhile, Ashiru Ssembatya Ssonko was saved by Kitende’s custodian Batali.

Elsewhere, St. Henry’s College Kitovu beat Royal Giant High School Mityana (6-5) on spot kicks after a 1-1 draw in the first Semi-Final. Isa Bugembe gave Royal Giant High School Mityana the lead in the 4th minute of the game but St. Henry’s College Kitovu equalised through Godfrey Ssekibengo.

In the shoot-out, Royal Giant High School managed to score five kicks through Alex Otti Opio, Yasin Owane, Annest Ankunda, Sudais Semakalu and Elvis Ssekajugo. However, Captain Bugembe and Isaac Apenyu missed their kicks.


On the other hand, St. Henry’s College Kitovu managed to score six goals in the shoot-out and these were scored by Godfrey Ssekibengo, Moses Okello, Ronald Mutasiga, Paul Mulindwa, Reagan Ssekisambu and Collins Ocatre. Meanwhile, only Khald Abubekar Izale missed from the spot.

DATE AND VENUE

The final will be played on Saturday, 20th May 2023 and Nyakasura Playground I, in Fortportal City is the venue for the final.
