St. Mary’s SS Kitende are the champions of the 2023 Uganda Secondary Schools Sports Association (USSSA) National Boys football championship after a 1-0 victory over St. Henry’s College Kitovu in the final played on Saturday 19th May 2023 at Nyakasura 1 playground.
A first-half goal from Habib Oloya , was enough to earn the Wakiso based school who won the previous two editions, in Jinja City (2019) and Arua City (2022) victory in front of thousands of fans at Nyakasura 1 playground in Fortportal.
This is Kitende’s third National title in a row since 2019, the eleventh since they won their first in 2004 and have joined Kibuli as record winners.
They previously emerged champions in 2022, 2019, 2015, 2013, 2012, 2011, 2008, 2007, 2006 and 2004 .
On the other hand , St.Henry’s College Kitovu’s wait for National glory continues after making its first final in this year’s edition of the championship hosted in Fortportal City .
The two finalists (St. Mary’s SS Kitende and St. Henry’s College Kitovu) plus the two losing semi-finalists Royal Giant High School Mityana and Amus College will represent Uganda at the 2023 East Africa games in Rwanda later in the year.
Meanwhile, St. Mary’s SS Kitende’s Abdul Nsereko scooped the top scorer’s gong while Allan Oyirwoth (Amus College School) was named the MVP. On the other hand, Royal Giant High School Mityana’s custodian Kamya Shamuran was the best goalkeeper of the tournament.
