Record Uganda Premier League champions SC Villa will be looking to build on their encouraging start to the season when they welcome league debutants Kigezi Home Boyz to Mutesa II Stadium, Wankulukuku, on Tuesday.
The Jogoos head into the encounter with seven points from their opening three matches and are unbeaten so far. Their latest result was a convincing 2-0 victory over city rivals Express, a result that provided further momentum ahead of their meeting with the newcomers.
Kigezi Home Boyz, however, will not arrive in Kampala simply to make up the numbers. The debutants picked up an important point in their previous outing after holding KCCA to a goalless draw in Kamwenge, demonstrating their ability to compete against more established opposition.
Having played one match fewer than Villa, Kigezi currently have one point on the board and will be eager to add to their tally. Coach Kefa Kisala will have to organise his side carefully against a Villa team that has already shown considerable attacking threat in the opening weeks of the campaign.
The visitors could also look to former SC Villa goalkeeper Norman Angufinduru for inspiration. Having previously guarded the Jogoos’ goal, Angufinduru now finds himself on the opposite side and could play an important role in frustrating his former employers.
Villa will enter the match as favourites, but their experience will count for little if they fail to match Kigezi’s determination. The visitors have already shown that they can hold their own against bigger names, and another disciplined display could make this a difficult afternoon for the hosts.
For SC Villa, the target will be clear: another victory to maintain their unbeaten beginning and keep themselves firmly among the early contenders. Kigezi, meanwhile, will be chasing what would be a significant result in their first Premier League campaign.
Kick-off is at 4pm.
