Teenage winger John Asiimwe has officially become the first new face at SC Villa ahead of the 2026/27 season after signing a three-year contract with the record Uganda Premier League champions.
The highly-rated youngster joins the Jogoos from Express FC, where he spent the previous two seasons showcasing his talent. His arrival underlines SC Villa’s commitment to investing in youthful players as they continue strengthening their squad for the new campaign.
Despite his age, Asiimwe has already gained valuable international experience. He was part of the Uganda national under-17 football team squad that represented the country at the FIFA U-17 World Cup last year, a tournament that further highlighted his enormous potential.
Before breaking into the Uganda Premier League, the winger sharpened his skills at Prosper Soccer Academy before starring for Bukedea Comprehensive School in the USSSA Games. His eye-catching performances at school level earned him recognition as one of Uganda’s most exciting young prospects.
Moments after completing his move, Asiimwe expressed his excitement about beginning a new journey with the country’s most decorated football club.
“I am glad to have joined Uganda’s best champions. It’s a pleasure for me to be here, and I can’t wait to create great memories with this wonderful club,”
He said.
The signing comes as SC Villa continue rebuilding their squad following a series of high-profile departures. Forwards Charles Lwanga and Elvis Ngonde have both completed free transfers to KCCA FC, while Diego Missi Ssemugera has moved to Kitara FC. Striker Hassan Mubiru has also departed after securing a move to Tanzanian giants Azam FC.
Under the guidance of head coach Kovacevic Zeljko, the Jogoos enjoyed a competitive 2025/26 campaign, finishing third in the Uganda Premier League standings with 61 points from 30 matches. However, they ended the season six points adrift of eventual champions Vipers SC.
With his pace, technical ability, and vast potential, Asiimwe is expected to add a new dimension to SC Villa’s attack. The club’s faithful will now be hoping the promising winger can translate his talent into consistent performances as the Jogoos chase domestic success in the 2026/27 season.
