Vipers SC have stepped up their preparations for the 2026/27 campaign after securing the services of Congolese defender Jacques Mangoba.

The eight-time Uganda Premier League champions confirmed the defender’s arrival on Thursday, as the Kitende-based club continues to reshape its squad ahead of a season packed with domestic and continental assignments.

Mangoba becomes the second player to join the Venoms during the current transfer window after midfielder Joel Sserunjogi, reflecting the club’s commitment to strengthening key areas of the team before competitive action gets underway.

The experienced centre-back brings a wealth of continental experience, having previously represented Democratic Republic of Congo powerhouse AS Vita Club, Angola’s Sagrada Esperança, and AS Simba Kamikaze. His arrival is expected to provide added resilience, composure, and experience to Vipers’ defensive unit.

“Joining Vipers SC is an exciting opportunity for me. I have followed the club’s progress and ambitions, and I’m proud to become part of this family. I can’t wait to meet my teammates, work with the coaches and give everything for the badge. I want to help the team win trophies and make our supporters proud”.”

At Vipers, Mangoba will reunite with fellow Congolese players Kevin Daslyva, Alfred Mudekereza, and Godi Beyuku, further expanding the club’s growing foreign contingent as the technical team builds a squad capable of competing at the highest level.

The latest addition comes just days after Vipers appointed experienced French coach Denis Lavagne on a two-year contract. The former Cameroon national team manager has been handed the responsibility of guiding the Venoms through an ambitious campaign as the club targets success on every front.

“Jacques is a defender with the physical attributes, experience and mentality we were looking for. He understands the demands of African football, brings quality in both defence and attack, and will strengthen our options in an important position. We are pleased to welcome him to Vipers SC”.”

Vipers are bracing themselves for one of their busiest seasons in recent years, with six competitions awaiting them. The Venoms will compete in the CAF Champions League, CECAFA Kagame Club Cup, FUFA Super 8, FUFA Super Cup, Uganda Premier League, and the Stanbic Uganda Cup, making squad depth and quality essential throughout the demanding schedule.

The club’s transfer business is, however, far from complete. Vipers are expected to further reinforce their ranks before the transfer window closes, with several local and international signings anticipated as the club continues to build a squad capable of challenging for every major honour during the 2026/27 season.
