Boni Consili Girls Secondary School produced a remarkable comeback performance to eliminate St. Noa Girls Secondary School and secure a place in the final of the 2026 Uganda Secondary Schools Sports Association (USSSA) National Girls’ Football Championship.
The highly entertaining semi-final clash, played at the Kabaka Kyabaggu Stadium in Wakiso, lived up to expectations as two of the tournament’s strongest sides battled fiercely for a place in the championship match. After an action-packed 90 minutes ended in a 2-2 draw, Boni Consili held their nerve to claim a dramatic 3-2 victory in the penalty shootout.
St. Noa started brightly and looked determined to return to the final. Their positive approach was rewarded in the first half when Martha Babirye found space in the Boni Consili defence before calmly finishing to give her side the lead. The goal handed St. Noa control of the contest and put them in a strong position heading into the halftime break.
However, Boni Consili returned for the second half with renewed energy and determination. Their persistence paid off when Peace Muduwa restored parity, finishing off a well-worked move to bring her side level and reignite their hopes of reaching the final.
The equaliser transformed the momentum of the match. Just two minutes later, Rinah Ariho produced a moment of brilliance, unleashing a superb strike that left the St. Noa goalkeeper with no chance. The goal completed a quick turnaround and gave Boni Consili a 2-1 advantage, sending their supporters into celebration.
Yet the drama was far from over. St. Noa responded immediately and demonstrated the resilience that has defined their campaign. Evelyn Katusiime stepped up when her team needed her most, finding the equaliser to make it 2-2 and ensure the contest remained delicately balanced. The goal set up a tense final period as both teams searched desperately for a winner.
Despite several promising opportunities at both ends of the pitch, neither side could find the decisive breakthrough. The deadlock remained intact at the final whistle, forcing the match into a nerve-racking penalty shootout to determine who would advance to the final.
The shootout reflected the tension that had characterised the match. Boni Consili missed two of their attempts through Sheila Mungutimu and Rinah Ariho, but St. Noa failed to take advantage. Grace Kawino, Evelyn Katusiime and Jennifer Onyango all missed from the spot for St. Noa, allowing Boni Consili to emerge victorious with a 3-2 shootout triumph.
The victory carried special significance for Boni Consili. It served as sweet revenge against the very side that ended their title hopes in the previous edition of the championship. Last year in Bukedea, St. Noa had cruised to a convincing 4-1 semi-final victory over Boni Consili. This time, however, Boni Consili turned the tables in dramatic fashion to keep their dream of lifting the national title alive.
With the win, Boni Consili advance to the championship match where they will face the winner of the second semi-final between Rines Secondary School and Amus College, which was being played at the same venue.
Although St. Noa’s quest for the national crown came to a painful end, there was still reason for celebration. Alongside fellow semi-finalists Boni Consili, Rines Secondary School and Amus College, they have secured qualification for the forthcoming Federation of East Africa Secondary Schools Sports Association (FEASSA) Games, set to take place in August in Morogoro, Tanzania.
For Boni Consili, however, the focus now shifts firmly to the final, where they will aim to complete an impressive redemption story and cap a memorable campaign with the national championship trophy.
