In a landmark development for Ugandan basketball, the JT Jaguars Basketball Franchise has officially rebranded to Kira Jaguars Basketball Club (BBC), marking a significant milestone in the organization’s journey as it celebrates its fifth anniversary.
The announcement, made by the club’s management, signals the beginning of a new chapter for one of the country’s rapidly growing basketball franchises. Home to both the men’s National Basketball League side, the JT Jaguars, and the women’s team, the JT Lady Jaguars, the franchise says the transformation is aimed at strengthening its identity within Kira Municipality while fostering deeper community engagement and long-term sustainability.
According to club officials, the rebrand is more than a cosmetic change. It represents a strategic vision designed to establish a stronger connection between the club and its supporters, while creating a comprehensive basketball ecosystem capable of nurturing talent from grassroots level to elite competition.
“Kira Jaguars is more than a name change; it is a statement of our long-term ambition. Over the past five years, we have built a fierce, competitive foundation. This next chapter is about growth, taking ownership of our home, and ensuring our players, fans, and partners feel a shared sense of pride every time we take the court.”
The club’s executive management noted
The timing of the announcement coincides with growing excitement surrounding the second edition of the Kira 8 Tournament, where the newly branded Kira Jaguars will make their first appearance under the new identity. Club leaders believe the move will strengthen the tournament’s connection to the local community while elevating the profile of basketball in the region.
The rebranding exercise will officially take effect at the conclusion of the current season and will be reflected across all club operations, including merchandise, digital platforms, official communications, and league registrations for both the men’s and women’s teams.
The transition comes during a promising period for the franchise. The women’s side has enjoyed a remarkable campaign, finishing at the top of the National Basketball League regular-season standings. The JT Lady Jaguars are widely regarded as strong contenders for their first-ever league championship and are set to face defending champions JKL Lady Dolphins in the quarterfinal playoffs.

Meanwhile, the men’s team secured the final playoff position after finishing eighth in the regular season. They now prepare for a challenging postseason encounter against the highly rated Namuwongo Blazers next month.
The franchise’s story began five years ago following its separation from the JKL Dolphins organization. The move was spearheaded by former JKL President CPA Jeff Nyagenya, who established the JT Jaguars franchise with a vision of building an independent basketball institution capable of competing at the highest level while developing future generations of players.
Five years later, that vision has evolved into what club officials describe as a community-centered basketball movement. With a new identity, ambitious plans, and both teams preparing for crucial playoff battles, the newly christened Kira Jaguars BBC appears poised to embark on one of the most exciting chapters in its history.
For supporters and stakeholders alike, the rebrand represents not only a fresh look but also a renewed commitment to excellence, community pride, and the continued growth of basketball in Kira and beyond.
