The round of 16 at the 2023 Fresh Dairy USSSA national girls football championship in Mbarara officially came to an end and just eight teams remain in the running to bring home the tournament’s coveted trophy.Next up: the quarterfinals as the road to the final takes shape

Record Champions Kawempe Muslim SS and defending champions St. Noa Girls Zana who are title favorites stormed the quarterfinals and showed their intentions with commanding results.

To achieve the feat, Kawempe Muslim SS and St. Noa Girls Zana registered round of 16 victories over Shuuku Vocational School and Nyabubale Secondary School respectively.

The defending champions St. Noa Girls Zana registered a 3-0 victory over Nyabubale SS from Bushenyi in the round of 16 duel played on Friday morning at Kakyeka Stadium.

On the other hand, record winners and last year’s runners-up Kawempe Muslim SS edged Shuuku Vocational School (2-0). Kawempe Muslim Ladies FC midfielders Agnes Nabukenya and Hadijah Nandago scored for Kawempe.

In the other round of 16 games played,Amus College School came from a goal down to edge Ryakasinga CHE 3-1 while Wakiso based Rines SS registered a 2-0 victory over Bugisu High School

Elsewhere, Sacred Heart SS from Gulu registered a 3-2 victory over 2018 Winners Gadafi Integrated Academy while Mukono Parents High School defeated St. Malico 2-0

Meanwhile Boni Consili Girls Vocational school stormed the quarterfinals after winning a petition against Lammenia who had won 2-1 while Olila High School edged (6-5) Sheema High on penalties following a goalless draw to book a place in the quarter-finals that will be played on Saturday at Ntare Stadium and Kakyeka Stadium.
