Ruth Aturo :Custodian sets sights on becoming FC KTP’s number one goalkeeper

Uganda Senior Women’s National Football team (Crested Cranes) captain and first choice goalkeeper Ruth Aturo who completed a two-year lucrative career move to Football Club Kotkan Työväen Palloilijat (FC KTP) early this year has set sights on becoming the club’s first choice custodian in her first season at the Finland based club.

In an exclusive interview with Sbk Sports Mail’s Brian Sentuuya,Aturo reflected on life at her new club and revealed that she isn’t in Finland to warm the FC KTP bench and set her sights on becoming the club’s first choice goalkeeper.

“It’s all going on well and last month but one we had a tournament and we were the champions,”

“We have been having a couple of friendly games preparing for the league that is starting ing this month on 6th and I have so far played 6 games and conceded only one goal”

“I’m here to help the team and play as much football as I can and it’s down to me to work hard in training and then take my chance when it comes,“

“I needed to learn the names of the players as well so I probably struggled a bit in the first friendly games if I’m being honest. It’s getting easier now after a few training sessions and friendly matches“

“I’m here to make the competition as hard as possible and I want to get into the net as the first choice goalkeeper as soon as possible as that’s what I’m here for“

Before joining FC KTP, the 2018 FUFA Most Valuable Player (MVP) Award winner had featured for UCU Lady Cardinals FC for the last three years and helped the Mukono based club clinch the 2018 FUFA Women’s Cup before winning the FUFA Women Super League in the following year.

The shot-stopper who graduated with a Diploma in Business Administration from the prestigious Mukono-based Uganda Christian University also featured for the most successful women football club in Uganda (Kawempe Muslim Ladies FC) where she won three successive FUFA Women Elite League titles.

Meanwhile, the shot-stopper is part of the the provisional squad of 47 players Crested Cranes head coach George Lutalo has summoned to kick-start preparations ahead of this year’s CECAFA Women’s Championship and TotalEnergies Women Africa Cup of Nations in Uganda and Morocco respectively.
