Police Football Club claimed the top spot in the StarTimes Uganda Premier League with a 3-0 victory over relegation threatened Busoga United on Tuesday while Kcca and UPDF’s unbeaten runs came to an end against SC Villa and Kyetume FC respectively.

Away from Police fc’s victory, there were also other hard-fought wins, thrilling draws and a few teams on the end of thrashings on matchday four.Vipers Sc, Soltilo Bright Stars and Uganda Revenue Authority Football Club managed to win their respective games whilst Express vs Mbarara City and Onduparaka vs Wakiso Giants ended in stalemates.

Here are key talking points from matchday four of the StarTimes Uganda Premier League action.

1.MUBIRU’S POLICE TOO HOT FOR OPPONENTS.

While much of the focus has been on KCCA and UPDF’s brilliant displays in the previous matchdays, it should not be overlooked just how good Abdallah Mubiru’s men are playing right now.

The unbeaten league leaders dominated possession throughout their emphatic win over Busoga United, their passing at times seeming to force Busoga’s players to twist and contort in circles.

2.KCCA STUMBLE

KCCA FC have been pretty dominant for the first three matches of this year’s StarTimes Uganda Premier League premier season.

Granted, they hadn’t come up against any really threatening opposition, but 12 goals with just one conceded in three games before the Villa game speaks for itself. However, a 2-1 loss to SC Villa also tells us something: KCCA are vulnerable.

KCCA’s prospective title rivals showed that they belong at the top footballing table with a confident and disciplined display, a win for the Kaziba coached side over Kcca helped them to move fifth on the table with 7 points in their opening four games of the season.

Ssekiganda’s fine form in his maiden season in Uganda top flight league continued as he netted for the second time in two consecutive League matches whilst Nicholas Kabonge scored his second goal of the season.

The Kasasiro boys had chances of their own, but they couldn’t finish and Brian Ahebwa’s late penalty was just a mere consolation.

3.VIPERS LATE SHOW

The story goes that Vipers often crack under pressure. Yet again Dan Mzee Sserunkuma’s late winner against Kitara on Wednesday was enough to hand Fred Kajjoba his first StarTimes Uganda Premier League victory to put pressure off his shoulders.

Mucureezi and Sserunkuma both came off the bench to help break down a dogged and ultra-defensive Kitara side that had frustrated their more talented opposition. But the Venoms did not panic and, as is becoming part of the narrative now at St.Mary’s Stadium, the Venoms bided their time to find the crucial breakthrough and clinched all the three points.

4.THE CONTINUOUS GROWTH OF BEN OCHEN

It wasn’t long ago that Police FC’s forward Ben Ochen was doubted by many of the game’s spectators in Uganda both in Police fc and Uganda cranes colours.

However, Abdallah Mubiru’s trust, guidance and patience has done wonders for the mostly doubted and under-rated cops forward.

He’s is currently one of the StarTimes Uganda Premier League’s top scorers, with six goals in his first four games. And, when he’s not scoring, he’s still having an influence on the game, as seen in Police’s previous matches.

Despite getting on the score sheet once,Ochen bullied Busoga United’s back four all game.

5.KYETUME ARE GOING UNDER THE RADAR

Kyetume + Livingstone Mbabazi doesn’t exactly seem like a recipe for success. However, the slaughters are quietly going about their business this season.

On Wednesday, they managed to get all the three points with a 1-0 victory over high-flying UPDF FC thanks to Mustafa Mujuzi’s late penalty goal, ending match day four with six points from four games, 4 points off the top top leaders Police Football Club.

The win helped them to get their first victory of the season in four games.

Whether they can sustain this form remains to be seen, but it’s an encouraging time to be a Kyetume fan.

6.ANOTHER DEFEAT FOR BUSOGA UNITED

What on Earth has happened to Busoga United?

Last season, having been written off by many before a ball had been kicked, the Jinja based side shocked us all, challenging the StarTimes Uganda Premier big boys before the season was prematurely cut short due to the outbreak of the deadly Coronavirus pandemic.

This year, everything is different. Their 3-0 loss at the hands of Police Football Club piled more misery on the Busoga based club, leaving them with just one point from their opening four games.

Attacking threat? None.

Defensive solidity? Nope.

Hopes of improvement? Bleak.

Their coach has previously done so much at the club, taking them from Big League to the top flight , then keeping them up with ease. However, their current run is difficult to ignore, and one has to wonder whether his job is as secure as the owner of the club reportedly claims.

7.GOAL GAP

Worries of a growing chasm between the top sides in the StarTimes Uganda Premier League and the rest are highlighted by the fact that only few sides have a positive goal difference while most sides have all conceded more than they have scored.

Bottom side MYDA have already shipped 9 goals, just a few more than the top four, combined, have conceded this season. Not that it is just a problem for MYDA ,even other relegation threatened sides also have negative goal difference.

8. CONSECUTIVE DRAWS

Wakiso Giants’ StarTimes Uganda Premier League form continues to cause concern after they followed their 1-1 draw at home versus Vipers SC with another 1-1 draw against Onduparaka at Greenlight Stadium, URA making it four draws from their first four games.
