SC Villa strengthened their impressive start to the StarTimes Uganda Premier League season with a convincing 3-0 victory over Kigezi Home Boyz at Mutesa II Stadium, Wankulukuku, on Tuesday, moving the record champions to third place on the table.
The Jogoos now have 10 points from four matches, having won three and drawn one. They remain level on points with second-placed NEC but sit behind the Lugogo side on goal difference, while BUL lead the standings with a perfect 12 points.
Villa made a fast start and took the lead in the 14th minute when Patrick Jonah Kakande calmly converted from the penalty spot. The early breakthrough gave the hosts the confidence to impose themselves on the contest.
Aslam Ssemakula then doubled Villa’s advantage in the 17th minute, putting the Jogoos firmly in control. Kigezi Home Boyz struggled to find a response as Villa continued to dictate the tempo and create pressure around the visitors’ defence.
Ssemakula was shown a yellow card in the 43rd minute as Villa went into the break with their two-goal advantage intact. Despite failing to add another goal before half-time, the hosts had established a strong position from which to manage the second half.
Kigezi made a change at the start of the second half, bringing on Innocent Ainebyona for Junior Orombi as coach Kefa Kisala looked for a way back into the match. Villa remained composed, however, and continued to control the game.
Villa made their first change in the 67th minute, introducing Andrew Otim for Frank Ssebuufu. The substitution would later prove decisive, with Otim making a significant impact after coming off the bench.
New signing Brian Kassim Mato was also introduced in the 73rd minute for Andrew Okumu as Villa continued to make changes while protecting their advantage.
Otim eventually put the result beyond doubt in the 80th minute, scoring Villa’s third goal just 13 minutes after entering the pitch. His contribution provided the finishing touch to a commanding performance from the Jogoos.
Further changes followed in the closing stages, with Geofrey Gagganga replacing Steven Mugisha and Martin Mamer Mabior coming on for Kakande in the 85th minute.
The victory extends SC Villa’s unbeaten run to four matches and takes them to 10 points from a possible 12. With three wins and a draw, the Jogoos remain firmly among the early contenders as the Premier League campaign gathers momentum.
Kigezi Home Boyz, meanwhile, remain 15th with one point from four matches. The league newcomers will now have to regroup quickly and seek a response in their next fixture as they continue adapting to the demands of top-flight football.
