NEC will host four-time Uganda Premier League champions URA at MTN Omondi Stadium, Lugogo, on Tuesday as the two sides meet with contrasting starts to the new campaign.
NEC have collected seven points from their opening three matches and currently occupy third position on the 18-team table. Their unbeaten beginning has placed them among the early contenders, although Badru Kaddu’s side will be keen to return to winning ways after being held to a goalless draw by Mbarara City in Kamwenge.
URA, meanwhile, have three points from two matches and sit eighth in the standings. The tax collectors suffered defeat to SC Villa in their most recent appearance and will be determined to respond strongly when they travel to Lugogo.
The difference in points between the two teams makes this an important encounter for both sides. NEC can strengthen their position near the top with victory, while URA have an opportunity to close the gap and move higher up the standings with a positive result.
NEC’s early form gives them confidence, but URA’s pedigree means they cannot be taken lightly. The four-time champions possess considerable experience of competing at the highest level of Ugandan football and will hope that their quality and experience can help them overcome their recent setback.
For Kaddu and his NEC players, greater efficiency in front of goal will be important after their goalless draw against Mbarara City. URA, on the other hand, must improve on their performance against Villa if they are to leave Lugogo with points.
With both teams having plenty to play for, the contest could prove to be one of the more intriguing fixtures of Matchday Four. NEC will be seeking to maintain their strong start, while URA will be aiming to put their campaign back on course.
Kick-off is at 4pm.
