Netball:Prisons Turn Up the Heat on KCCA in Super League Title Race

Prisons Netball Club strengthened their bid for the Uganda Netball Super League title with an impressive victory on Saturday, cutting the gap at the top of the standings and piling pressure on leaders KCCA Netball Club.

The wardresses produced a clinical display to defeat Busia Greater Lions 48–31, earning two crucial points that lifted them to eight on the table. The victory leaves Prisons just two points behind KCCA, who lead the standings with ten points.

Significantly, Prisons have played one match fewer than the table leaders, placing them in a strong position to potentially move to the summit in the coming rounds.

Prisons controlled the contest from the opening whistle, combining disciplined defending with sharp attacking play to keep Busia Greater Lions at bay throughout the encounter. Their consistency across all four quarters reflected the quality of a side determined to challenge for league honours this season.

Elsewhere, UPDF Netball Club registered a hard-earned 40–35 victory over Dynamite Netball Club in another entertaining women’s fixture. The soldiers edged the opening quarter 12–9 before the teams went into the break tied at 19–19.

UPDF gradually asserted their dominance after halftime, extending their lead to 33–28 at the end of the third quarter before maintaining their composure to secure a deserved five-goal victory.

One of the day’s most captivating encounters saw Canan Netball Club and Police Netball Club settle for a dramatic 45–45 draw. Canan looked set for victory after leading 14–10 in the first quarter, 25–21 at halftime and 35–34 heading into the final period. However, Police mounted a spirited comeback, using their experience and resilience to erase the deficit and force a share of the points in an exciting finish.

The day’s opening fixture also delivered late drama as Kajjansi Progressive completed a remarkable comeback to edge Busia Greater Lions 45–44. Busia appeared to be cruising to victory after leading 12–9, 24–20 and 36–30 at the end of the first three quarters.

Kajjansi, however, produced an outstanding final-quarter performance, overturning the six-goal deficit to snatch victory in the closing moments.

In the men’s division, Patriots Men’s Netball Club produced a dominant display to defeat International 44–27, while Red Star Netball Club wrapped up the day’s action with a convincing 40–32 victory over Masaka Netball Club.

With the Uganda Netball Super League gathering momentum, the battle for top honours continues to intensify. Prisons’ emphatic victory has tightened the race at the summit, while a series of closely contested matches across both the women’s and men’s divisions highlighted the growing competitiveness and quality of domestic netball.
