Uganda’s boxing team, The Bombers, experienced contrasting fortunes on the second day of competition at the Glasgow 2026 Commonwealth Games, with one boxer advancing confidently to the next round while another saw his campaign come to an early end.
The day’s biggest success came through light heavyweight Alfred Ojok, who produced a commanding performance to defeat Niue’s Kalani Antelea-Launlu by unanimous decision. Ojok controlled the contest from the opening bell, displaying superior technique, composure and ring intelligence to outclass his opponent and secure a deserved place in the round of 16.
The victory was another encouraging sign for Uganda’s boxing contingent, with Ojok becoming the second Bomber to reach the round of 16. His confident display underlined the team’s ambition of making a deep run in the tournament as the level of competition continues to rise.
It was, however, a disappointing outing for lightweight Ibrahom Kemis, whose Commonwealth Games journey ended after suffering defeat to Zambia’s Albert Ngulube. Despite showing determination throughout the bout, Kemis was unable to overcome the experienced Zambian, who did enough to earn victory and progress to the next stage.
Ojok now joins welterweight Nuhu Batte in the round of 16 after Batte also impressed on the opening day of the boxing competition. Batte secured his place in the next round with a unanimous decision victory over his Nigerian opponent, giving Uganda an early boost in the tournament.
With two fighters safely through to the round of 16, Uganda’s boxing team remains firmly in contention as The Bombers continue their pursuit of medals at the Glasgow 2026 Commonwealth Games.
The performances of Ojok and Batte have provided optimism that Uganda can once again make a significant impact on one of the Games’ biggest sporting stages.
