Uganda Cranes midfielder Baba Al-Hassan has completed a move to Turkish club Mardin 1969 Spor Club, signing a two-year contract as he begins a new chapter in his professional career.
The talented holding midfielder joins the Turkish outfit after spending the previous two seasons with Romanian giants FCSB, where he established himself as an important member of the squad. During his time in Romania, Al-Hassan made 72 appearances and scored two goals, gaining valuable experience in European football.
Mardin 1969 Spor confirmed the signing of the Ugandan international, expressing confidence that his experience, character and technical ability would make a significant contribution to the club’s ambitions.
“We wish Baba Alhassan, who we believe will make significant contributions to our goals with his experience, character and quality, a career full of success under our red-navy blue jersey and hope that he will be beneficial to our community,”
the club stated.
Al-Hassan’s football journey began at African Talent Football Academy, before he earned an opportunity to move abroad. In 2019, he joined Spanish side Real Valladolid, continuing his development in Europe after previously featuring for Real Valladolid B between 2018 and 2019.
After his spell in Spain, the midfielder moved to Romania as a free agent in 2020, signing for Hermannstadt. His performances in Romanian football helped him attract attention from top clubs, eventually leading to his move to FCSB, where he spent two successful seasons.
Known for his ability to break up play, control the midfield and provide defensive balance, Al-Hassan has also become a key figure in the Uganda Cranes setup. The midfielder has earned five senior international caps and was part of the Uganda squad that featured at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations, gaining further exposure on the continental stage.
His move to Mardin 1969 Spor marks another important step in his career as he looks to continue his growth in European football while contributing to the club’s ambitions. The Turkish side, founded in 1969, plays its home matches at the 5,700-capacity 21 Kasım Stadium in Mardin and carries a rich history, having previously achieved success in Romanian football during the 2003/04 league season.
With his combination of international experience, European exposure and midfield versatility, Al-Hassan arrives at Mardin 1969 Spor with expectations of becoming an influential figure as the club prepares for the challenges ahead.
