The 11th Uganda Aquatics National Swimming Championships opened on Thursday at Kampala International School Uganda (KISU) with a day of intense racing, rising talent, and an energetic atmosphere that immediately signaled a high-level competition.

The venue carried a lively championship feel from the very first races, with the KISU spectator lounge filled throughout the day. Parents, coaches, and supporters turned up in large numbers on the weekday schedule, creating constant noise and encouragement that lifted the swimmers and added colour to Uganda’s flagship swimming event.

A major milestone of the opening day was the successful introduction of Uganda Aquatics’ new electronic touch-pad timing system. The upgraded technology ensured accurate, swift, and internationally aligned race results, marking an important step in modernising competition standards in the country.

The championships also drew notable attention from Commonwealth Sport Uganda President Donald Rukare, who observed proceedings and praised the standard of performance on display.

He was particularly encouraged to see members of Uganda’s Commonwealth Games squad already competing, including Kirabo Namutebi, Tara Kisawuzi, Tendo Kaumi, Tendo Mukalazi, Husnah Kukundakwe, and Condoleeza Nakazibwe, who are sharpening their form ahead of the upcoming Commonwealth Games.
