KCCA FC have continued to shape their squad ahead of the new season with a blend of continuity and renewal, officially confirming a one-year contract extension for experienced defender Hassan Muhamud.
The announcement, made through the club’s official website, underlines the management’s commitment to preserving leadership and stability within the team as they prepare for a more demanding and competitive campaign both locally and potentially on the continental stage.
The extension comes at a crucial moment in Muhamud’s career at the club, as his previous two-year agreement, set to run until the end of the 2025/26 season, had reached its final phase. Rather than allowing uncertainty to affect squad planning, both parties moved decisively to secure his continued stay, a clear indication of the defender’s importance within the team structure and the trust placed in his experience.
Since his arrival at Lugogo, Muhamud has grown into one of the most reliable and adaptable figures in the KCCA FC setup. His ability to operate across the defensive line, whether as a centre-back, full-back on either side, or as a shielding midfielder, has given the technical team valuable tactical flexibility. This adaptability has not only strengthened the squad’s depth but has also allowed the team to adjust seamlessly to different match situations and tactical demands.
Beyond his positional intelligence, Muhamud brings composure, leadership, and a strong understanding of defensive organization. His presence has often been instrumental in guiding younger players and maintaining structure during high-pressure encounters, making him a vital component in the club’s defensive stability.
Muhamud’s football journey reflects a player shaped by diverse experiences across several competitive environments. Before joining KCCA FC, he featured for some of Uganda’s established clubs, including Express FC, Police FC, Onduparaka FC, and SC Villa, where he earned recognition for his discipline, consistency, and defensive reliability.
His development was further enriched by a spell in Tanzania with Geita Gold FC and Mbeya City FC, where he competed in a more physically demanding and tactically varied league environment. These experiences helped him refine his game intelligence, decision-making under pressure, and adaptability across different football cultures.
On the international stage, Muhamud has represented the Uganda Cranes, including participation in the African Nations Championship (CHAN), a tournament reserved for players featuring in domestic leagues. Competing at this level exposed him to elite continental opposition and further strengthened his composure, resilience, and tactical awareness.
This international experience continues to benefit KCCA FC, as he brings a level of maturity and understanding that proves crucial in tightly contested matches where discipline and organization are key.
Following the renewal of his contract, Muhamud expressed satisfaction with his continued stay and emphasized his belief in the club’s direction and ambitions. He highlighted his strong relationship with the coaching staff and the importance of internal competition in pushing the team forward.
“I am delighted to extend my stay with KCCA FC. I have a good relationship with the head coach, and he has shared his plans with me. I am certain that we can achieve so much as a unit. The club has fantastic players, and this kind of competition keeps every player on their toes, which is healthy for all of us.”
Muhamud said.
KCCA FC head coach Brian Ssenyondo welcomed Muhamud’s renewal, describing him as a key senior figure whose leadership and versatility remain essential to the team’s structure. He emphasized that retaining experienced players was central to maintaining balance as the club undergoes transition.
“Retaining Hassan was a priority for us. He is a senior player whose leadership and flexibility give us so many options across the back line. His understanding of our long term plans made this extension easy.
Ssenyondo noted.
Squad Reinforcement Through New Signings and Departures
Even as Muhamud’s extension reinforces continuity, KCCA FC have simultaneously embarked on an active squad rebuilding process. The club has already strengthened its ranks with the arrival of midfielder Elvis Ngonde from SC Villa on a three-year contract. The signing is part of a deliberate strategy aimed at strengthening the spine of the team, increasing competition, and ensuring greater balance in central areas ahead of a more challenging season.
At the same time, the club has overseen several departures as part of its restructuring efforts. Sharif Ssengendo and Brazilian forward João Gabriel Esteves Cardoso both left the club following mutual termination of their contracts, bringing their respective tenures at Lugogo to an end and creating space for fresh reinforcements.
Further exits include Brian Ijara, who has secured a move to Europe in pursuit of new challenges, while Joel Sserunjogi has joined reigning Uganda Premier League champions Vipers SC. These changes highlight a significant transitional phase at KCCA FC, as the club reshapes its squad with a clear ambition of restoring consistent competitiveness at the highest level.
Technical Restructuring and Leadership Clarity
In addition to player movements, KCCA FC have also made a key technical adjustment by confirming Brian Ssenyondo as the sole head coach, officially ending the previous co-head coach arrangement.
This decision signals a shift towards a more streamlined leadership structure within the technical team, aimed at improving clarity, strengthening decision-making, and enhancing accountability as the club prepares for the new season.
Taken together, these developments reflect a club in active transition, balancing experienced continuity with strategic recruitment and structural reform. With Muhamud’s extension, new arrivals like Ngonde, and a reshaped technical setup under Ssenyondo, KCCA FC are clearly laying foundations for a more stable, competitive, and results-driven future.
