The deadlock was broken in the 19th minute when a stroke of misfortune befell Kitara’s Donato Okello, who inadvertently redirected the ball into his own net after goalkeeper Chris Kusiima parried away Yunus Sentamu’s initial attempt. This own goal provided Vipers with the early advantage, setting the tone for the encounter.
Despite Kitara’s resilience, epitomized by Brian Aheebwa’s close header in the 77th minute, which rattled the crossbar, Vipers maintained their defensive composure. The Venoms’ persistence paid off in the dying moments of the match, as Nigerian forward Abubaker Lawal, who replaced Milton Kariisa, unleashed a thunderous strike into the net in the 86th minute.
