In a momentous occasion, the President of the Union of European Football Associations (UEFA), Aleksander Ćeferin, has graced Uganda with his presence for a significant 2-day visit.

This marks his second return to the country, extending a warm embrace to the heart of Africa, under the gracious invitation of the Aliguma Foundation Sports & Empowerment Center (AFSEC).
Ćeferin, accompanied by a delegation of over 200 individuals, arrived on Sunday, setting the stage for a series of impactful engagements aimed at uplifting the sports and empowerment landscape in Uganda.
Charity Match and Social Impact:
The highlight of Ćeferin’s visit is set to unfold on Monday at the St. Marys Stadium in Kitende. The UEFA President will lace up his boots to participate in a charity match alongside the UEFA Legends team against the Uganda Parliament Team. The proceeds from this philanthropic spectacle will be directed towards supporting the Boy and Girl-Child, reflecting UEFA’s commitment to social responsibility.

Soccer Academies Exploration:
Beyond the playing field, Ćeferin is scheduled to explore various soccer academies, immersing himself in Uganda’s football development initiatives. This gesture underscores UEFA’s dedication to nurturing talent and fostering football excellence at the grassroots level.
Empowering Communities:
A journey spanning over 200 kilometers will take Čeferin to the town of Masindi, home to the Aliguma Foundation Sports & Empowerment Center (AFSEC) in Kinuuma Village- Bigando Parish, Miirya Sub-County. Here, he will bear witness to the foundation’s profound impact across the country. The pinnacle of this leg of the visit will be the official commissioning of the newly developed training soccer pitch, a testament to the collaborative efforts in advancing football infrastructure.
Distinguished Company:
Slovenia FA President Radenko Mijatović joins the UEFA President on this monumental trip, symbolizing the spirit of collaboration and shared commitment to the beautiful game.
UEFA Foundation for Children’s Support:
In 2019, the Aliguma Foundation received a grant from the UEFA Foundation for Children, marking their inclusion in the Sports For Resilience & Empowerment Project (SREP). The subsequent year saw the foundation securing a second grant, a clear testament to UEFA’s satisfaction with the impactful and accountable utilization of the initial funding.
As Ćeferin’s visit unfolds, it not only underscores the global impact of football but also serves as a beacon of hope for empowerment and positive change. The UEFA President’s engagement with the Aliguma Foundation reaffirms the potent role of sports in shaping communities and fostering resilience, leaving an indelible mark on Uganda’s football landscape.
