In a poignant announcement, StarTimes Uganda Premier League reigning champions, Vipers Sports Club, have officially confirmed the departure of midfielder Abdu Lumala, marking the end of a successful tenure with the Venoms.

The 26-year-old dynamo, a proud alumnus of St Mary’s Secondary School, Kitende, first gained recognition with the school team before making waves on the European stage in 2015. Lumala, known for his blistering pace, graced the Vipers SC lineup for two seasons, having joined as a free agent in July 2022. His departure comes as he embarks on a new chapter, pursuing a promising opportunity elsewhere.

During his stint with the club, the versatile winger showcased his prowess in 20 appearances, netting three goals and contributing five assists. Notably, Lumala exits as a double champion, having played a pivotal role in securing both the Uganda Premier League and Stanbic Uganda Cup titles in the 2022/23 season.

A standout moment in Lumala’s Vipers SC journey was his integral contribution to the team’s historic triumph over TP Mazembe in Lubumbashi, Democratic Republic of Congo. This victory propelled Vipers SC into the CAF Champions League group stages for the first time in the club’s storied history.

Prior to his tenure with Vipers SC, Lumala’s football odyssey took him through various clubs, including Mjallby AIF (2015), Kalmar FF (2016-2019), Varbergs BoIS (2017), Helsingborgs IF (2017), IFK Varnamo (2018), Syrianska FC (2019), and Pyramids (2019). His departure leaves a void in the squad, but the legacy of his achievements will undoubtedly endure in the annals of Vipers SC history.
