Sir Apollo Kaggwa Schools and City Parents’ School geared up for Inter-school co-curricular competitions

After two years of unending lock down , schools (primary, secondary and universities) are back to life following the COVID-19 pandemic where all learning institutions in Uganda were closed by the authorities as one of the measures to curb down the vast spread of the highly contagious corona virus.

With sanity finally restored, pupils and students returned to their respective schools early this year and learning chores commenced immediately to compensate for the quality time lost.

Meanwhile, co-curricular activities such as debate, swimming, MDD, indoor and outdoor sports activities in schools are also steadily picking up and lovers or followers of the Sir Apollo Kaggwa schools/City Parents’ School interschool co-curricular competitions have so much to look out for at this term’s edition of the competition that promises an amazing experience.

Over 5,000 pupils across the ten Sir Apollo Kaggwa Schools will represent their respective schools in this term’s Sir Apollo Kaggwa Schools / City Parents’ school Inter School co-curricular competitions (swimming and ball games ie football, netball, volleyball and basketball )

The participants will come from Wakiso based Kyengera Parents School , Sir Apollo Kaggwa Boarding Primary School (Old Kampala) , Winston Day and Boarding Primary School – Kawempe, Fairways Nursery and Primary School (Kireka) , Sir Apollo Kaggwa Primary School -Nakasero,Sir Apollo Kaggwa Primary School -Kitintale, Sir Apollo Kaggwa Primary School -Mengo, City Parents’ School, Kyengera Parents School – Mugongo and Sir Apollo Kaggwa Primary School -Kisaasi.

This term’s competition promises to be a highly exciting one and all the 10 Sir Apollo Kaggwa Schools/ City Parents’ school have been drawn into two groups of five teams each ahead of competitions meant to ensure pupils’ talents are identified, nurtured and promoted with active participation aware that the main objective is to have SAK/CPS schools’ team for each game which will represent the organization in national and international competitions.

The competitions are also intended to open new opportunities for learners to experience football, netball , swimming, volleyball and basketball on a level where they practise leadership, commitment, fair play and teamwork as well as participation in team sport, communication between peers, tactical play, team building and FUN.

Group A has five schools and these include Sir Apollo Kaggwa Primary School -Kitintale, Sir Apollo Kaggwa Primary School -Nakasero, Sir Apollo Kaggwa Primary School -Mengo plus the Wakiso based duo of Kyengera Parents School and Fairways Nursery and Primary School (Kireka).

Without a shadow of a doubt, this is the toughest group of the tournament.

On the other hand, Group B falls under the ‘hardest to predict’ category with City Parents’ School, Winston Day and Boarding Primary School Kawempe, Sir Apollo Kaggwa Boarding Primary School (Old Kampala), Sir Apollo Kaggwa Primary School -Kisaasi and Kyengera Parents School-Mugongo all falling into the same group.

Naturally, City Parents’ School will enter group B as the favourites to pick up the first-place position, but don’t jump the gun. Winston Day and Boarding Primary School, Sir Apollo Kaggwa Primary School Kisaasi and Sir Apollo Kaggwa Boarding Primary School (Old Kampala) have a great chance of spoiling the citizens’ party with Kyengera Parents School-Mugongo lurking in the background.

Meanwhile,Preparations to have tranquil competitions are underway by the organizing committee and to further mitigate the spread of the highly contagious COVID-19 and all other respiratory infections , all Standard Operating Procedures (SOP’s) to safe guard one another have been emphasized.

These entail social distancing, regular hand-washing, sanitizing and wearing of clean face masks where applicable.
