The Syli Nationale (National Elephants) of Guinea only taking part in their third CHAN competition, defeated Namibia three – nil at the Limbe Omnisports Stadium this Tuesday January 19.

Not that Namibia and gaffer Richard Samaria expected much from the game, but the side gave away probably the most daftest  goals in the competition so far.

Guinea took the lead at the 12 minute of play courtesy a howler by goalkeeper Edward Maova and his defenders who gave away the ball to forward Yakhouba Barry, for one – nil Guinea.

Getting mid-way through the second half, Namibia started showing some good signs upfront with Marcella Papamal acting as a menace down the flanks.

In Namibia’s quest to get an equaliser, they were caught cold at the back.

Guinea doubled their money in the first half added on time. The goal came as a result of a break from Namibia’s own corner kick. Guinea’s play maker Morlaye Sylla still had a lot to do with half of the pitch to himself, but he raced, dropped the shoulders and scored arguably the goal of the tournament against Edward Maova.

Namibia however kept on pressing in the second half. Ambrosius Amseb’s sweetly hit free kick at the 52 minute, met great reflexes from goalkeeper Camara Moussa who applied finger tips.

A fragile Namibia defense could not sort out their defensive frailties and it let to Guinea’s third, Yakhouba Barry getting his brace on 86 minutes, putting the icing on the cake.

Namibia are therefore bottom, while Guinea tops group D, having after bettered Zambia’s superb performance earlier in the day.
