Uganda’s representatives and champions of last year’s StarTimes Uganda Premier League, Vipers SC are out of this year’s Total CAF Champions League after being tactically and comprehensively outplayed by Sudan’s side Al Hilal Omdurman across two legs in the preliminary round of this year’s competition.

Their exit has been confirmed after they have been beaten 1-0 by Al Hilal Omdurman at the Al-Hilal Stadium in the return leg of the CAF champions league preliminary round.

The Kitende based outfit came into this encounter with a hope of reversing the first leg deficit after 0-1 home loss thanks to Bakhiet Hamid’s winner at St. Mary’s Stadium Kitende in the first leg of their preliminary round clash with Al Hilal Omdurman.

However , they had to do it in absence of notable key players from their team that started versus Al Hilal Omdurman in the first leg of at St. Mary’s Stadium Kitende.

Uganda cranes defender and Viper’s skipper Halid Lwaliwa, AbdulKarim Watambala, Geoffrey Wasswa, Milton Kariisa, Abraham Nduggwa and Livingstone Mulondo tested positive for COVID-19 and were unable to travel with their team-mates.

Fred Kajjoba’s men struggled with their decision-making in the final third and lots of early missed glorious goal scoring opportunities from the likes of Dan Mzee Sserunkuma, Jamil Kalisa and Ceaser Manzoki ruined any hope of reversing the first-leg deficit.

Once again, Vipers’ defending let them down as the Sudan’s outfit capitalised on their defensive error and poor communication and scored the only important goal to put ice on the cake as Fred Kajoba’s team looked distinctly second best in both meetings.

Fred Kajjoba’s team showed more intent to play with the ball in the opening stretch, but Al Hilal’s goal in the second half essentially extinguished any hope of the StarTimes Uganda Premier League outfit progressing to the last eight.

The Kitende based club has been emphatically knocked out of Caf Champions League, beaten 2-0 on aggregate across two legs and will now shift their focus on defending their StarTimes Uganda Premier League triumph whilst Al Hilal Omdurman has progressed to the next round and will either face Nouadhibou of Mauritania or Ghana’s Asante Kotoko.
