Uganda’s women’s 3×3 basketball team maintained its flawless run at the Glasgow 2026 Commonwealth Games after cruising to a commanding 21-8 victory over Fiji on Sunday afternoon, securing a fourth consecutive win in the preliminary rounds at the Scottish Event Campus.

The Gazelles, represented by Melissa Akullo, Jane Asinde, Jamila Nansikombi and Perus Nyamwenge, once again delivered a composed and clinical performance, overpowering Fiji with relentless defense, sharp ball movement and efficient finishing to remain unbeaten in the competition.

Returning to action after a full day’s rest, Uganda showed no signs of losing momentum. The quartet picked up exactly where it had left off on the opening day, when it swept aside Jamaica, the Cayman Islands and regional rivals Kenya to announce itself as one of the tournament’s standout teams.

Against Fiji, Uganda controlled proceedings from the opening possession, using quick transitions and aggressive defensive pressure to deny their opponents any opportunity to build momentum.

The Gazelles dictated the pace throughout the contest and steadily pulled away before sealing another emphatic victory by reaching the 21-point mark. The convincing triumph further strengthens Uganda’s position in the standings and extends an impressive unbeaten streak that has been built on teamwork, discipline and consistency.

Every player has continued to make valuable contributions on both ends of the floor, with the chemistry between Akullo, Asinde, Nansikombi and Nyamwenge proving one of the team’s greatest strengths.

The win also serves as another confidence boost ahead of what promises to be Uganda’s toughest assignment of the tournament.

Later this evening, the Gazelles will face group and tournament favourites Australia in a blockbuster encounter that could have a significant bearing on the final group standings.

Australia enters the contest as one of the strongest sides in international 3×3 basketball, and Uganda will need another disciplined and inspired performance to preserve its perfect record.

The Gazelles will be aiming to combine the defensive intensity and attacking efficiency that have carried them through their opening four matches against an opponent expected to provide a much sterner examination.

With four victories from four outings, Uganda has already exceeded many expectations and established itself as one of the form teams at the Glasgow 2026 Commonwealth Games.

The challenge now is to maintain that remarkable momentum against Australia’s star-studded lineup and continue a memorable campaign on the Commonwealth stage.
