Uganda’s Junior Silverbacks are currently in action against regional rivals Kenya in their second Group B match of the 2026 FIBA U18 AfroBasket Zone 5 Qualifiers in Cairo, Egypt.
The highly anticipated East African encounter is taking place at the Cairo Stadium Indoor Hall 2, with Uganda looking to build on the momentum gained from their impressive opening-day victory over South Sudan.
The Junior Silverbacks started their qualification campaign on a positive note after defeating South Sudan’s Young Bright Stars 52-40 in a closely contested fixture on Friday. Uganda showed resilience and defensive strength to overcome a late challenge from South Sudan and secure an important win.
Head coach Daniel “Najja” Juuko will be hoping his team maintains the same intensity and discipline against Kenya as the Junior Silverbacks continue their pursuit of one of the two available qualification slots for the 2026 FIBA U18 AfroBasket Championship in Abidjan, Côte d’Ivoire.
Uganda will once again look to key performers from their opening victory, including point guard Shane Kwizera, who delivered a sensational triple-double of 19 points, 10 rebounds, 12 steals and four assists against South Sudan.
John Levi Ogiramoi and Pierre Laurent Rwuhiriro will also be expected to play important roles after making valuable contributions in the opening match. Ogiramoi provided scoring support with 12 points, while Rwuhiriro offered defensive stability in the paint with eight points, nine rebounds and two blocks.
Kenya, meanwhile, presents a fresh challenge for Uganda, with the regional rivals expected to bring intensity and physicality as both teams battle for a place in the knockout stage.
A victory for the Junior Silverbacks would secure their place in the semi-finals, where they would face the runner-up from Group A, featuring hosts Egypt, Rwanda and Tanzania.
