The Federation of Uganda Basketball Associations (FUBA) has officially released the fixture for the highly anticipated National Basketball League (NBL) playoffs, setting the stage for an exciting postseason campaign that will run from July to September.
Following a brief postponement, the playoffs are now scheduled to tip off on Friday, July 10, at the YMCA Court in Wandegeya, bringing together the country’s top basketball talent in the battle for national supremacy.
The opening day will feature two thrilling encounters. In the women’s division, Magic Stormers will lock horns with Pearl Queens in a contest expected to showcase the growing competitiveness of women’s basketball in Uganda. The men’s category will then take center stage as UCU Canons face Victoria Crocs, a matchup that promises intensity and high-quality basketball as both teams seek an early advantage in the postseason.
The playoff schedule was revised after FUBA considered the commitments of several national team players who are currently involved in preparations for international competitions, including the upcoming FIBA World Cup Qualifiers. The adjustment aims to ensure that clubs can field their strongest squads while allowing national team athletes to fulfill their international duties.
Under the revised calendar, the postseason will gradually build toward the championship series. The semifinals, which will be played under a best-of-five format, are set to begin on August 21. The championship finals will then tip off on September 11, with teams competing in a best-of-seven series to determine the 2026 National Basketball League champions.
The National Basketball League playoffs represent the culmination of a demanding regular season involving twelve teams. Throughout the season, clubs compete in a home-and-away format during the first and second rounds, with only the top eight teams earning a place in the playoffs. Meanwhile, the bottom two teams face relegation, while the ninth and tenth-placed teams conclude their campaigns and begin preparations for the next season.
The playoff bracket follows a seeding system designed to reward strong regular-season performances. The top-seeded team faces the eighth seed, second plays seventh, third meets sixth, and fourth takes on fifth in the quarterfinal round. These quarterfinals are contested in a best-of-three series, meaning the first team to secure two victories advances to the next stage.
Once the quarterfinals conclude, the competition enters the semifinal phase where the bracket is reorganized. The winner of the first-versus-eighth matchup will face the winner of the fourth-versus-fifth contest, while the other semifinal will feature the winner of second-versus-seventh against the winner of third-versus-sixth. This structure ensures that every game carries significant weight as teams pursue a place in the championship finals.
With several title contenders in strong form and fans eager for postseason action, the 2026 FUBA National Basketball League playoffs are expected to deliver weeks of intense competition, dramatic moments, and unforgettable performances. As the countdown to July 10 continues, basketball enthusiasts across Uganda will be watching closely to see which teams rise to the occasion and move one step closer to lifting the coveted national title.
