In a heartfelt announcement, Kampala Queens Football Club has confirmed the departure of their long-serving midfielder and former captain, Zainah Namuleme. Namuleme, who has been with the club since 2016, has been an integral part of the team’s journey and numerous successes. Her departure marks the end of an era for the club, as they say goodbye to a player who has left an indelible mark on the team’s history.
Namuleme’s commitment to Kampala Queens has been nothing short of exemplary. Joining the club in 2016, she quickly established herself as a key player with her exceptional skills, leadership qualities, and unwavering dedication. Over the years, she has been instrumental in driving the team to numerous victories, earning the respect and admiration of both her teammates and fans.
Namuleme took over the captaincy from Fauzia Najjembe at the start of the 2021/22 season, who had earlier replaced Aisha Namukisa. Her departure is undoubtedly a significant loss for the club, but her legacy will continue to inspire future generations of players.
During her tenure as captain, Namuleme led Kampala Queens to their maiden FUFA Women Super League trophy in the 2022-23 season, after coming so close in the 2021/22 campaign. Her leadership on and off the pitch played a crucial role in the team’s success, fostering a sense of unity and teamwork within the squad. However, towards the end of the 2023/2024 FUFA Women Super League campaign, Namuleme decided to step down from her role as captain after two and a half years, marking the end of a significant chapter in her career with Kampala Queens.
Namuleme’s exit comes against a backdrop of escalating internal discord within the club, despite her commendable contributions. Various accounts point to interpersonal disagreements and controversial management choices as key factors worsening the club’s predicaments. Notably, Namuleme reportedly lost her captaincy following a conflict with head coach Charles Ayeikho, highlighting underlying tensions within the organization amid growing concerns about the club’s strategic direction and governance.
Namuleme becomes the third player to leave Kampala Queens in the ongoing transfer window, following the earlier departures of Lilian Mutuuzo and Damalie Matama, who were unveiled by Yei Joint Stars of South Sudan.
While her departure marks the end of a significant chapter in the club’s history, it also opens the door to new opportunities and challenges for her. Her departure is undoubtedly a significant loss for the club, but her legacy will continue to inspire future generations of players.
