In a surprising turn of events, Uganda Martyrs Lubaga Women Football Club bid farewell to head coach Issa Ssempijja and assistant coach Emmy Kisakye after a mere 57 days at the helm. The decision comes on the heels of a brief tenure that spanned only four games.
Despite a valiant effort, the coaching duo managed to secure only one victory, with two draws and one defeat under their belt. Sources suggest that the club’s leadership was left unconvinced by their performance, prompting the abrupt termination of their coaching responsibilities.
Uganda Martyrs currently finds itself in an unfamiliar sixth position on the FUFA Women Super League table, accumulating a meager twelve points. This marks the team’s worst-ever first-round showing, a stark contrast to their glory as the 2023 FUFA Women’s Cup champions.
Remarkably, the coaching carousel has been on a whirlwind ride, with the departure of Rogers Nkugwa and assistant Rajab Buyinza after a mere five games. The reins were then handed over to Ssempijja and Kisakye, who faced a similar fate after just four games at the helm.
The club now stands at a crossroads, actively seeking new coaching talent to fill the void left by Ssempijja and Kisakye. With the second round looming on the horizon next month, Uganda Martyrs is determined to recalibrate its strategy and embark on a journey of resurgence in the FUFA Women Super League.
