Asubo , Kawempe play out goalless draw | Sbk Sports Mail

Kawempe Muslim Ladies FC and Asubo Ladies FC played out a goalless draw in the FUFA Women Super League clash at Kampala Quality Playground on Sunday that maintained Kawempe’s unbeaten run but offered their rivals a chance to knock them off the Ligue summit.

In a match that kicked off at 10:00AM, Rhoda Nanziri, Halimah Kampi and Sharifah Nakimera’s inclusion were the only changes to the Kawempe XI that started the previous match against Makerere University that ended 2-2

But in the absence of injured players such as Jolly Kobusingye , Shakirah Nankwanga and Samalie Nakachwa, Kawempe were blunt in attack and shaky in defense despite dominating possession, while their passing was not as slick.

The valley warriors had two opportunities to take the lead in the 12th minute when Nakayenze was put through on goal by Agnes Nabukenya but the winger saw her shot blocked by Asubo’s Katisi Desire Natoolo before Hadijah Nandago’s effort from the rebound went wide.

In the 18th minute, Agnes Nabukenya’s almost opened the scoring for the visitors with a well taken right-footed shot, but Bridget Hellen Nabayaza cleared just in the nick of time and moments later , Namutebi Krusoom couldn’t redirect Mary Kabaculezi’s off-target shot from the corner while Asubo’s initial offensive move saw Babirye Sarah curl wide.

The home team threatened in the 28th and 36th minutes from corners; Juliet Adeke saved Nyafwono Teddy’s header before Miriam Ayoo missed an opportunity to make it one for the hosts. Phiona Nabulime’s shot from the edge that was easily saved by Olga Lukia and Yudaya Nakayenze’s off target shot were the final chances of the first half.

In the second half, Kawempe Muslim Ladies FC midfielder and FUFA Women Super League’s top scorer this season with 5 goals, Agnes Nabukenya had a header blocked while Asubo Ladies FC goalkeeper Olga Lukia also denied Phiona Nabulime with a fine save.

Moments later, Sharifah Nakimera played a dual role. She made an overlap into Asubo’s area but finished poorly sending her shot far away from Asubo’s goal. Later, she tracked back for a crucial tackle to thwart Kamiyati Naigaga’s threat moments after her introduction in the 63rd minute.

Moments later, Yudaya Nakayenze failed to connect Rhoda Nanziri’s well laid through ball from the free kick whilst Kamiyati Naigaga continued to trouble the visitors defence on several occasions.

At 67 minutes, Juliet Adeke made a crucial save from Kamiyati Naigaga’s hit outside the box after skipping past Sharifah Nakimera before Olga Lukia denied Nandago’s attempt, leading to a corner which Asubo Ladies defended well to deny the visitors.

Asubo nearly took all the three points on a counter-attack in the 84th minute when the ball fell to Kamiyati Naigaga but the striker’s shot from close range after a beautiful run from the left wing went wide.

The hosts’ handball appeal in the closing stages of the game was rejected by the referee before Kawempe’s second half substitute Allen Nassazi missed the mark after a wonderful pass from Agnes Nabukenya .

In the added minutes of the game, Hadija Babirye’s header went over as Asubo held firm to secure a point and register a clean sheet against the table leaders.

Kawempe Muslim Ladies FC are top with 15 points, two points ahead of Kampala Queens in second and three clear of She Maroons in third. Both Kampala Queens and She Maroons will have the chance to move ahead of Kawempe when they face-off today at Omondi Stadium Lugogo.
