Vipers SC finally ended a long standing jinx of not winning a double as they defeated FUFA Big League side Police FC in the 2022-23 Stanbic Uganda Cup Final played at Akii-Bua Memorial Stadium, Lira on 3rd June, 2023.
A first-half goal from Uganda Cranes winger and Vipers SC’s captain Milton Karisa helped the kitende based outfit to earn a 1-0 victory over Angelo Lonyensi coached side, whose surprise run to the final included victories over Apuutun FC, Pajule Lions FC, Ndejje University FC, defending champions BUL FC and Adjumani TC FC in the round of 64, round of 32, round of 16, Quater Final and Semi Final respectively.
With victory, Vipers SC whose run saw them eliminat Bujumbura United FC, Jinja North United FC, Wakiso Giants FC, Calvary FC and Soltilo Bright Stars FC in the round of 64, round of 32, round of 16, Quater Final and Semi Final respectively, have finally managed to clinch a domestic double, ( league and Cup double) which has always eluded the kitende based outfit whenever under such situation.
This implies that they have officially joined SC Villa (1986, 1988, 1989, 1998, 2000 & 2002) , Express FC (1995)and KCCA FC (2017)as the only four Ugandan clubs to win both the Uganda Premier League and Uganda Cup titles in the same year.
