Growing up in the Arua District of north-west Uganda, Peace faced numerous challenges, including societal expectations that saw young girls as a ‘source of wealth’ and often forced them into early marriages. Despite these obstacles, Peace’s exceptional athletic talents were recognized by one of her sports teachers at school.
By the age of 16, she was determined to pursue a career in sports, driven by a vision of a brighter future for herself and her community. Her resolve to break free from traditional confines and follow her dreams set her on a path to greatness.
At eighteen, Peace made a bold move, traveling over 800 miles to Kampala, the capital city of Uganda, to play for a team sponsored by The National Insurance Corporation, where she also worked. This decision, initially met with reluctance by her father, marked a pivotal moment in her life.
Peace’s unwavering belief that this opportunity would pave the way for her family and serve as an inspiration to other girls in her community proved to be well-founded. Her tenacity and courage in the face of uncertainty exemplified her dedication to her sport and her community.
Peace’s remarkable performances on the court did not go unnoticed. Her prowess earned her a scholarship to Uganda Christian University, allowing her to play netball while continuing her education. This opportunity further solidified her commitment to her sport and academic pursuits, showcasing her ability to balance both successfully.
Her journey took a significant turn when she played for Uganda in a Netball World Cup qualifier, catching the attention of the English Superleague club Loughborough Lightning. This opportunity brought her to England, where she joined the UK’s elite netball league, marking the beginning of her ascent to international stardom.

From this point onward, there was no looking back for Peace Proscovia. She quickly established herself as one of the best shooters in world netball, with a slew of personal and team accolades following her impressive performances. Her influence was instrumental in Uganda’s rise in the INF World Rankings, securing the She Cranes a historic spot at the Commonwealth Games for the first time, where Peace had the honor of being the country’s flag bearer. Additionally, she led Uganda to victory in the 2017 Africa Championships, cementing her legacy as a key figure in Ugandan netball.
Individually, Peace has garnered numerous accolades, including being named Vitality Superleague’s Player of the Season and Players’ Player of the Season, as well as winning the Gilbert Golden Goal twice, among many other achievements. Her growing list of accomplishments reflects her exceptional talent and dedication to the sport. In 2018, Peace’s influence and impact were further recognized when she was announced as the first-ever INF Global Ambassador.
In 2017, she delivered a heartfelt speech at the INF Congress in Gaborone, Botswana, where her moving account of her journey brought the audience to tears, underscoring the profound impact of her story. Peace Proscovia continues to be a symbol of hope and inspiration, not just in netball, but in the broader landscape of sports and beyond.
