Uganda Martyrs WFC are the champions of the inaugural End of year Women Beach Soccer Festival (2021) after they edged Nansana Ladies 3:1 in the final game of the ten-team Beach soccer gala played on 31st December 2021 at Mutoola Beach.

The Freda Ayerango coached side made a bright start to the tournament with a 5-1 confortable victory over Mutoola Ladies 5-1 before eventually securing a 3-1 triumph over Nansana Ladies WFC in the final thanks to Nabila Nana, Namande Margaret and Catherine Nagadya’s strikes whilst Namatovu Sharon scored for Nansana Ladies who were the first runners up.

Prison Ladies emerged second runners up whereas Mutoola ladies went home with the Fair Play award of the End of year Women Beach Soccer Festival 2021.

The Golden Boot and MVP of the Tournament awards went to Uganda Martyrs High School Lubaga WFC’s Catherine Nagadya, who was a worthy winner having played a huge role in seeing her side clinch the trophy after notching nine goals while her teammate and custodian Daphine Nyayenga was named the best goalkeeper.

"I feel great winning this tournament and I thank everyone who has played an important role in organising this tournament,"

''It means a lot winning this tournament because it's my first time winning this trophy and it's the teamwork that has enabled us come out victorious." Top scorer and MVP Catherine Nagadya said after winning the trophy.

Meanwhile, the best five players of the 2021 End of year Women Beach Soccer Festival were Daphine Nyayenga, Catherine Nagadya, Namade Margaret, Nakasato Rebecca and Namisango Stella.

The first edition of the Women beach soccer festival organised by the Uganda Women Football Association attracted ten clubs including Mutoola Ladies, Uganda Martyrs HSL, Prison Ladies, She Maroons, Talented Ladies, Mpaata Ladies, Nansana Ladies, Ajax Queens and KJT ladies , and no one was as fulfilled as the Uganda Women Football Association Chairperson Margaret Kubingi.

"Uganda Women Football Association and Uganda Beach Soccer Association sat down and agreed that we should organise this festival on this date, 31st December 2021,"

"And today, what we thought or dreamt has become true because we have had a very good number of teams that have turned up for this festival."- Chairperson Uganda Women Football Association Margaret Kubingi said about the festival.

On the other hand , the Chairperson of the organising committee Shaka Wilber couldn’t hide his delight after yesterday’s End of year Women Beach Soccer Festival.

"This competition has started well and has given us a true picture towards the beginning of the Women beach soccer league which is estimated to commence in February,"
"We have seen new talents in this competition, we have seen new clubs coming in, the stronger ones that have been existing and the new ones that have come in,"

"So, the tournament that has given us a true picture of what we are going to organise in the Women beach soccer league."- Shaka Wilber, - Chairperson Organising Committee noted.

For starters, on 6th December 2021, the Uganda Beach Soccer Association (UBSA) and Uganda Women Football Association (UWFA) announced that they had joined hands in order to promote and develop Women beach soccer in Uganda.

The New Memorandum of Understanding between the two associations gave Uganda Women Football Association (UWFA) the mandate to run Women beach soccer competitions effective 2021-2022 season under close supervision of the Uganda Beach Soccer Association (UBSA).
