The Uganda Crickets Association commemorated this year’s International Day for People with Disabilities (IDPD) with two sets of Cricket matches which was attended by National Youth MP Phiona Nyamutoro, Lord Councillor Allan Mwesige, UCA CEO Martin Ondeko, Cricket Cranes players.

The matches that were played at Lugogo Cricket Ground on Friday 3rd December were contested between Team Aces and Team Beasts before Media XI faced PWDs XI.

Team Beasts came up on top against Team Aces beating them by 9 wickets after 52/1 over Team Aces’ 51/7.

Team Aces lost the toss and were told to bat first managing 51 runs in 10 overs. The Beasts ran riot with 6 overs.

Team Beasts captain Ali Waqar was named the player of the match after scoring 34 runs off 14 balls and picked 2 wickets taking the match honours with a 9 wicket win.

The main match of the day between Media XI and PWDs XI ended in a draw after Media XI managed 62/5 and PWDs XI 62/4.

Captain Ramathan Kakooza’s Media XI made 62 runs in the allotted 8 overs, despite Barbara Mukankusi’s PWDS wanting just 13 runs to win from 3 overs at one point but Media XI came from behind to force a tie.

The day ended with peace making as the teams cut a cake to celebrate the day under the theme “Leadership and participation of persons with disabilities towards an inclusive, accessible and sustainable post COVID-19 world.
