Uganda’s representatives in CAF Confederations Cup KCCA FC have confirmed that they will host their game versus AS Kigali in the second leg of the CAF Confederations Cup (First round game) away from home.
The Kasasiro boys will not grace their famous home venue (MTN Omondi Stadium, Lugogo) but will instead host the aforementioned game at St. Mary’s Stadium(Kitende) ,the home of their rivals and reigning champions of the Startimes Uganda premier league, Vipers SC.

The club has revealed that the decision to host their CAF games away from home was made when their home ground MTN Omondi Stadium, Lugogo was deemed unfit to host this edition’s CAF games by the Confederation of African Football (CAF) after inspection of Stadiums in Uganda.
“After an inspection of Stadiums in Uganda, CAF notified KCCA FC that MTN Omondi Stadium, Lugogo was not eligible to host this edition’s CAF games”
“CAF accredited St Mary’s Stadium, Kitende and deemed it fit to host CAF games”
“KCCA FC then hired St Mary’s Stadium Kitende for the return leg game against AS Kigali.”

KCCA FC lost the first leg fixture by forfeiture (2-0) after falling to raise the minimum number of players required for a game when a number of their players tested positive for COVID-19 just days before the set date for that encounter.

The second leg fixture, which is scheduled for 6th January 2021,brings another CAF organized sporting event to St. Mary’s Stadium, which late last year hosted Uganda Cranes vs South Sudan (Afcon qualifiers) and Vipers SC vs AL Hilal (CAF champions league .
Meanwhile, the Kasasiro boys have entered residential camp at Cranes Paradise Hotel in Kisasi.All the players and officials in camp have already undergone COVID-19 testing and returned negative.

The camp has been organised in line with preparations for the CAF Confederation Cup return leg game between KCCA FC and AS Kigali on Wednesday 6th January 2021 at St Mary’s Stadium, Kitende.
The team entered camp on Saturday 2nd January and will start training at St Mary’s Stadium, Kitende the venue of Wednesday game between KCCA FC and AS Kigali.
Upon arrival, the players immediately went in for a brief meeting enlightening on the COVID-19 pandemic that was addressed by the team doctor Ivan Ssewanyana who urged players to follow all Ministry of Health Guidelines while in camp.
While talking to the players, assistant Coach Morley Byekwaso urged them to be more vigilant and alert about the guidelines governing COVID- 19 while in camp.
